L & T INFOTECH PAPER
Hi! Guys I am Abdullah Khan, currently in third year IT from Pillais Institute of Information Tech (PIIT – New panvel). I was placed at L&T infotech on 3rd March 2008. The placement took place @ Terna College Of Eng. – Nerul. Only two colleges were Invited Pillais and Terna. I will attempt the best possible way to provide you with all the information regarding the placement that took place few days back..

Some very Quick Stats:
Colleges Invited : 2
Approx Students : 350-400
Shortlisted : 71
After G.D : 36
Finally selected : 20

(Fret not on seeing the success ratio. Probability of you being selected will seem low.. but its just a fact.. calm down and read on)

When ?
We were informed about the placement only on march 1 that it would happen at Terna on 3rd(and on the very next day i.e 4th Mastek would come specially for us at our college) So PIIT students were in Dilemma whether to appear for Mastek or L&T. According to me the correct decision would have been to go for both… since students were not sure if L&t would be a single day event, many of them didnt attend L&T drive.

How ?
We reached there @ 8.00 in the morning.. although we were told to come till 9.30 I suggest going a little bit early would only help u calming down some nerves. Try to have a look at the college and get acquainted to it.. so that you don’t feel a loner there.. Trust me this helps….I did the same.

Description ?
It was believed that at present there would be a ppt presentation and then after the 1/2 hour routine there would be an apti test but that wasnt the case.. due to some reason the l&T people were a bit late (thats ok) so they decided to take the aptitude test first. After giving the test they told us to move to the seminar hall where in they would give presentation about the company and by the time the presentation would be over they would tell us our results. Sounds Interesting ?

Process ?
1) Aptitude Test
2) Group Discussion
3) HR/Tech. Int.

1) Aptitude Test
(Sectional Cutoffs this time and they strictly followed it this time around unlike last year) Guys don’t hit me on this, since i ve’ forgotten many questions but will try my best to give you some.

This time around the aptitude test was difficult. Not many questions were repeated but it was still manageable
1) Quanti Section (Tough) (30 quest. 30 marks – R.S Agarwal is ur bible)
-> Few question from time and work
-> Few questions from matrices/determinants
-> Few question from speed and distance (tough ones)
-> Few (infact 5) from permutations/combinations (again some tough ones here)
-> Few trignometry questions
-> Few ratio proportion and percentages
-> Few Age based questions
-> Few from allegations and mixture
-> Few from series
-> Few from probability

thats all i remember. Guys a friendly suggestion try to cover only these chapter thoroughly from R.S agarwal and you should clear most of the quanti section.

2) Data Interpretation/Nonverbal/Logical Reasoning (Manageable) (30 quest. 30 marks – R.S Agarwal is ur bible)
Again i do not remember much questions here but still lets see…
-> Few (infact 7) from Non-Verbal part i.e based on 4 iamges u decide the next one in sequence… (few were tough)
-> Few table based interpretation questions.
-> Few puzzles based (Refer R.S Agarwal verbal/nonverbal/logical reasoning book for these chapters)
-> Few Pie charts based question
-> Few logical vein diag question (any apti has this question)
-> Coding – Decoding
-> Data Sufficiency

Rest I don’t remember much.. but as i said it was manageble section…

3) Verbal/English/Comprehension ability (Very Tough to me atleast) (30 quest. 30 marks – R.S Agarwal is ur bible)
-> A paragrapgh was given and we were asked 5 questions from it and again there were 4 options
1) If the question is relevant and could be answered from passage
2) If the question can be answered as a deduction from any of the other situation(S) from the passage
3) If the question can be or cannot be the result of any situation(s) from the passage given
4) If the question asked is irrelevant and cannot be answered.

So what do you get from these type of question ? Its a complete waste of time to attempt these questions at start. Attempt it lat. I found these types somewhat similar to cat pattern. ne ways lev it..

-> Few analogy based question (the ones that i remember are) Defunct:life :: ? (Refer R.S Agarwal its given there) and from that same R.S agarwal there were 3 questions more…
-> Two Comprehensions (1 Tough ad 1 Easy)
-> Few questions on odd man out type.. infact i remember one question Axe,Arrow,Knife, hammer (Ans- Arrow (easy one))
Rest again i don’t remember

2) Group Discussion
I was confident that i would get through GD. Since many have said.. that i am not a bad speakerl Infact few friends whom i didnt know from Terna congratualted me afte the discussion was over. I kind of gained confidence from there onwards for Tech and HR drive**

My group included 14 members including me.. we went inside the room and found two persons (sir) there. Just to add a sentence here, before my group who so ever went inside.. these two guys were selecting only 3-4 candidates from a grp of 15. I was tensed but not shattered. We went inside.

One of the person asked our names out and we promptly replied back “yes sir”. After that he asked us for a topic.. Few Smart girls from my group started enchanting their already prepared topics.. one of them crossed the limit and started saying.. Sir lets start on any abstract topic..”Half full – half Empty”. Although i was prepared for it but i found this very errant and stupid. It was that she thought no body would be able to talk on this, she might get through teh gd and rightly so not many of my grp members were prepared for it. I crossed her and replied “sir why dont we start on topics like. Sin(theta), cos(theta) or Zero” and then I looked at her and she was like cursing me.. but that made her quiet.

And then another gentelman from my group started “Sir Budget”. Everyone said No!
I took the moment as an aoppurtunity and said.. Sir its better that u decide the topic since there are 14 different views circulating here. luckily he selected a simple topic “Nano”

the discussion went on i was to speak for the topic. Mines was an awesome GD. I spoke 3rd. but relevant to the crux. and then the funniest part as i am a big fan of usingproverbs i quickly found out a proverb for the situation and exaggerated there. A guy from my group started saying to his friend “Shit now we have no chance”. I felt good at first place since i believed that atleast i had a chance to be selected if only 3-4 persons are selected from the group but the very next moment i felt bad too.. since the guy was way much better in academics than me. so i stopped with mines.

As obvious when sir announced the name of selected candidates i was the first candidate to be selected. Surprisingly including me there were 7 persons selected. Very uncharacteristic of those gentlemens. We came out happily from the GD room with a personal information form in our hands. This form meant that we were qualified for the next level.

Some tips:
** Speak Relevant points.
** Dont panic. Neither repeat points
** Dont be dominating ( i had a friend being rejected due to this)
** Listen to others
** Sit staright (sound motherly )
** Most importantly while speaking address to all your mates in the group.
** Avoid using fillers and bad grammer.
** Be an active listener and a passive speaker.

3) HR/Tech Interview
I was the 11th candidate to be interviewed, ironic to the fact that i hate 11 but that is how it was supposed to happen. I went inside the room at 9.15 pm i guess. Here i would like to emphasize that i was lucky that i want asked any technical questions mainly HR. Those who went for technical interview were asked questions on c/c++/Data Structure.. What is polymorphism, inheritence, benifits of oop etc.. Write a program on bubble, quick, heap, merge sort etc.. What is linked list etc. etc. etc.

Me: can i come in mam’?
She: Oh! sure please come in
Me: Good Evening! Mam
She: Good Evening! please have a seat.
Me : Thank you mam.
She: How was your day Abdullah?
Me : Fine until now, waiting for the last checkpoint to cross successfully
She: Great!
She: Tell me about yourself
Me: told
She: In your form i can see you have written that you have helped someone grow. Explain it please.
Me: Explained about a client whom i helped in developing his website and how his personal businees brought him success.
She: Abdul tell me, At 20 you are almost doing a consulting type of job. Why do you need to join l&t or for that matter any company? lets start a consulting form together it sounds interesting?
Me: I grabbled here! I somehow generated some courage from within and said mam these kind of work that i do, they are more of fun to me and i havent looked at it seriously and i amd also not sure how long can it go.As a reson i plan to join some firm and test my skills. Somwhere down the line after 10-15 years if i feel the need for it i would definitely not mind working with you as a cosultant:-)
She: What happened in your earlier sems u have an average of 50% in ur 1st 3 sems and then the marksheets doesnt really looks like yours. (last 2 sems average 76%)
Me: Was prepared for this. Explained it to her.
She: Willing to relocate.
Me: Not an issue.
She: Any questions for me.
Me: asked
She: ok thank you Abdullah.
Me: Was Pleasure talking to you mam.(shook hands and went off)

Results were announced and i was selected (Again ironically my number was called out at 11th position) Gees! how irritating. Anyways the package offered by L&T is a bit on lower side for a fesher 2.2pa as of now but they siad it would be revised. As i wrote this quite fast so this article is bound to have some discrepancies, spelling mistakes or at some places it may feel lacking completeness and relevances. I apologise for that.

Last but not the least i will want to thank the helping staff at Terna college for conducting such a beautifully managed event. Never for a moment I felt that I was in some other college. Thank you all.

Directions for Questions 11-15: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage. Microprocessor is an electronic computer Central Processing Unit (CPU) made from miniaturized transistors and other circuit elements on a single semiconductor Integrated Circuit (IC). Before the advent of microprocessors, electronic CPUs were made from individual small-scale Integrated Circuits containing the equivalent of only a few transistors. By integrating the processor onto one or a very few large-scale Integrated Circuit packages (containing the equivalent of thousands or millions of discrete transistors), the cost of processor power was greatly reduced. The evolution of microprocessors has been known to follow Moore’s Law when it comes to steadily increasing performance over the years.

This law suggests that the complexity of an Integrated Circuit with respect to minimum component cost will double in about 18 months. From humble beginnings as the drivers for calculators, the continued increase in power has led to the dominance of microprocessors over every other form of computer; every system from the largest mainframes to the smallest handheld computers now uses a microprocessor at their core. .As with many advances in technology, the microprocessor was an idea wbose time had come. Three projects arguably delivered a complete microprocessor at about the same time: Intel’s 4004, Texas Instruments’ TMS1000, and Garrett AiResearch’s Central Air Data Computer. . A computer-on-a-chip is a variation of a microprocessor, which combines the microprocessor core (CPU), some memory, and I/O (input/output) lines, all on one chip. The proper meaning of microcomputer is a computer using a (number of) microprocessor(s) as its CPU(s), while the concept of the patent is somewhat more similar to a micro controller.

11) Which of the following descriptions would NOT fit a microprocessor?
A) Electronic computer
B) Central Processing Unit
C) Memory disk
D) A single integrated chip circuit.

12) Select the TRUE statement from the following.
A) Microprocessors and computers on a chip are variations of each other.
B) Integration of processing power on chips has made processing power cheaper.
C) Before microprocessors, CPUs were not made from individual small scale ICs.
D) A microprocessor circuit only has transistors in it.

13) Which of the following was NOT the first to develop a microprocessor?
A) Microsoft
B) Intel
C) Texas Instruments
D) Garret

14) According to the passage, which of these is NOT a use of microprocessors?
A) Drivers for calculators
B) Core for large mainframes
C) Advanced mobile phones
D) Used for small handheld computers

15) “A number of microprocessors at its CPU” is an apt description of a:
A) 11icro-controller
B) Micro-computer
C) Micro-processor
D) Micro-transistor

Directions for Questions 16-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Dynamic Link Libraries Windows provides several files called dynamic link libraries (DLLs) that contain collections of software code that perform common functions such as opening or saving a file. When Windows application wants to use one of those functions or routines, the app sends a message to Windows with the names of the DLL file and the function. This procedure is known as calling a function. One of the most frequently used DLLs is Windows COMMDLG.DLL, which includes among others, the functions to display File Open, File Save, Search, and Print dialog boxes. The application also sends any information the DLL function will need to complete the operation. For example, a program calling the Open File function in COMMDLG.DLL would pass along a file spec, such as *. * or *.DOC, to be displayed in the dialog box’s Filename text box.

The application also passes along a specification for the type of information it expects the DLL to return to the application when the DLL’s work is done. The application, for example, may expect return information in the form of integers, true/false values, or text. Windows passes the responsibility for program execution to the DLL, along with the parameters and the return information the DLL will need. The specific DLL is loaded into memory, and then executed by the processor. At this point the DLL, rather than the application, runs things. The DLL performs all the operations necessary to communicate with Windows and, through Windows, with the PC’s hardware. After the DLL function is complete, the DLL puts the return information into memory, where it can be found by the application, and instructs Windows to remove the DLL routine from memory. The application inspects the return information, which usually tells whether the DLL function was able to execute correctly. If the operation was a success, the application continues from where it left off before issuing the function call. If the operation failed, the application displays an error message.

16) By using DLLs, Windows:
A) Saves processing time
B) Multitasks
C) Shares program code
D) Communicates with PCs hardware

17) To use any routine of a DLL, Windows:
A) Searches and copies it in the application code and executes it
B) Loads the DLL file and searches and executes the routine
C) Loads just the required routine in memory and executes it
D) Searches the location of the routine and instructs the application to execute it

18) Which information does an application need to passto Windows to use a DLL routine?
A) Just the name of the routine
B) Just the name of the DLL, which finds in turn the routine to be executed in return
C) Both the name of the routine as well as DLL and any parameters
D) Name of the DLL, routine, any parameters and type of information to be returned

19) According to the passage, while the DLL routine is executing, the calling application:
A) Waits for the routine to execute
B) Continues with other tasks
C) Helps the DLL routine perform by communicating with Windows and through Windows with the PC’s hardware
D) Passes all responsibility of program execution to the DLL and is removed from memory

20) The DLL function after execution returns:
A) The parameters and information into memory, where it can be inspected by the calling application
B) Information into memory, where it can be inspected by the calling application
C) To the calling application the information required by it so that it can inspect it
D) The information required into memory so that DLL can inspect whether the function operation was a success

TECH MAHINDRA PAPER ON 25th SEPTEMBER 2008

Candidates appeared for the aptitude:81
Candidates Cleared aptitude:17
Finally selected after Interviews:17

The 1st screening was done by keeping the eligibility criteria as 58%.Those below 58% were allowed to sit for the exams but even if they cleared the aptitude they were not called for interviews!

The aptitude test was ONLINE!!….The test was reallly simple…..but the main constraint was TIME!!…we had to solve 100 questions in 60 mins. The procedure to be followed during the test and various details such as login_id and password were clearly explained when the panel gave their presentation. There is no Negative marking. So attempt all questions.

For clearing the aptitude R.S aggarwal Quantitave & Verbal -Nonverbal Reasoning should be solved…
The important topics that should be covered from these books are:
==Quantitative: H.C.F.and L.C.M of nos.,Average,Problems on Ages,Percentage,Time and Work,Alligation or Mixture,Simple Interest, Compound  Interest, Clocks, Simplification
==Verbal and Nonverbal: series completion, Analogy,coding-Decoding,Blood Relations, Puzzle test,Data sufficiency, Logic, Statement-Conlusions,Figure matrix,Odd man Out from Image Series, series of images.

There are 6 sections
section 1=Nonverbal,
section 2=verbal reasoning ,
section 3=Quantitaive,
section 4,5,6 is English

There is sectional cutoff…but no Upper cutoff. GUI is user friendly.Every section, after attempting should be saved otherwise the page gets refreshed and all the answers will be lost.we can change the section as and when we want but the section should be saved.

If u get a good score in ur aptitude or if u are among the Top-3 or 4 students ur technical interview will be easy.
I was asked general questions …..such as Tell me about urself,Why should i hire u?,What do u know about Tech Mahindra?,What are ur strengths and weaknesses? Tell me about the Projects that u did…and the role played by u and other team members .Then i was told to move to the H.R. Round

In the H.R. round the interviewer asked us about our views regarding a general situation. The situation given to me was that…if i am made the college principal …what are the 3 things that i would like to change?…Others were asked about MNS,and issue of north indians coming into Mumbai.

Just be confident …and if u dont know something …say u are not sure or say i dont know!Dont bluff.Be thorough with ur projects and everything that u have mentioned in ur resume! If u have a gap in any of ur academic years or between the Engineering semesters…u should have a strong reason to support the gap.

Before Tech Mahindra …i had appeared for 6 other companies…but somehow i couldnt even clear the aptitude .
So dont lose hope if u are still struggling with the aptitude….its just that..it was not ur day..or something better is awaiting u!!I want to thank…Freshers World and the students who made it a point to write their experiences..

VIRTUSA PAPER ON 28th JUNE AT HYDERABAD

Total attempted students=864

Students cleared written test=81

Students cleared tech interview=65

Final selected students are=46

With god grace I was one of the 46

It consists of 3 rounds

1) written test
2) tech interview
3) HR interview.

There is no GD
Written test consists of 5 sections

1) Analytical ability-20m,30min

2) Verbal ability.30m,20min

3) Attention to detail-20m,20min

4) Technical-40m 30min

5) Reading ability.-10m 20min

1st section is verbal ability it consists of

1) rc 5m

2) articles 10m

3) select appropriate meaning 5m

4) some stuff like find out errors 10m

Articles are very simple like names of large cities followes by in & villages by at just based on this he asked 4 questions other also very simple We can get synonyms by context I think no need to prepare for that. Errors also easy this paper is made by MERIT TRAC so you can prepare questions from IBM also

2nd analytical ability is some what tough it has a cube prob

der r 3 cubes are placed horizontally and cutted into 64 (each cube) & den 1st one line (4*4)row of second & 1st 2 rows of 3rd cube r removed & painted black all sides now que are

1) how many cubes r only 1 side painted

2) how many cubes r 2 sides painted

3) how many cubes r 3 sides painted

4) how many cubes r no side painted

and 2 probs on time & distance 1 started with a speed 20kmph &den 2 started after 30 min 1 when started with a speed of 25kmph and 3 started after how many min wit a speed 40kmph to reach all 3 at same time?

Some thing like that bt easy
Attehtion to detail this is very easy section & que on decision making r some twisted be prepared from R S aggarwal’s VERBAL reasoning. Der r some que based on binary numbers 5 prob r given $=1,*=0 then what is value of $$***$$/**$*$$$$ like this

Technical this is hardest in all sections we hav to do 40 q in 30 min & der r 10 progarammes each of 1 ½ page length don’t do them first be prepare from DS especially from linkedlist&trees most of d q r based on that

READING ability they given a 2 ½ page material on pipelining of microprocessors is given followed by simple q s
They said there is sectional cutoff but I hav seen my answer paper & I got 76 out of 120 n der is nothing abt sutoff marks on dat sheet

TECHNICL interview

WIPRO PAPER ON 12th JULY AT BANGALORE

Hi guys….this was my second company & luckily because of god’s(sri krishna’s) grace i got placed in wipro on 12th July 2008 in Banglore…. i actually had not thought of getting into wipro.. i thought ill just try & it would b a practice session for me….so had just taken it very lightly….but somehow luckily could clear aptitude test…

In selection process there will b 3 rounds..
1>aptitude test which consists of 3 sections..All the sections r compulsory…so give equal importance to al sections because there will b sectional cut off…
those three sections r

QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE
VERBAL SECTION
TECHNICAL SECTION
2>technical interview
3>HR interview

give equal importance to al sections in aptitude test …i m stressing this point more…. the questions in verbal were quite difficult….so i had to guess the words ..but if u have r preparing for competitive exams like gre, cat… then it will b an added feature to u & u can make it very fast… there will b passages, analogy, fill in the blanks with correct words, identify the wrong sentences & so on…. u must b fast enough… read the passage at the last if u have time….

then the quantitative aptitude section was quite easy & nice… i liked it…. there were questions on mixtures, series, profit& loss, puzzles which r easy, blood relationship, trains, clock, probability…… u have to do calculations fast…. that,s all… do al question whichever u feel easy first & then try for difficult ones…

technical was also quite straight forward like output from c program, unix commands & basics of C , atleast 1 vauge question… but u need not bother about it ,…if u r a cs or is student then u can easily crack it…..

MY TECHNICAL INTERVIEW
My technical interview went on for only about 8 minutes…my b i was lucky…
Sir: tell me about yourself?
Me:i am so & so…. bla bla bla…. i hv secured 84% aggre…..
Sir:which 2 subjects u like the most?
Me: i like data structures & C
Sir: then tell me what is data structure?
Me: data structure is the most basic form or the structure in which the data can b stored efficiently & from which the data can b accessed .for example arrays, structures, union, enum….
Sir: do u know what is memlock(something else i don’t remember it properly) in C?
Me: no sir, i don’t no about it, i have not come across it any time…
Sir: k,then do u no malloc?
Me: Yes sir, it is a function used to dynamically allocate memory ….. it returns void pointer & take in number of bytes as argument…
Sir: k then how can v convert void into int?
ME: By typecasting it
Sir: tell me about your projects?
Me: I told him about the project which i had done on b+ trees & one more on Database…
(He then was asking me about the project details…. which i cud answer easily….)
Sir: which domain do u like to work in?
Me: I like mobile communication & automation….
Sir: u r selected take this form & fill it up….

i was so happy …. since i had not prepared anything for technical…..

HR INTERVIEW
My HR interview was something very nice & interesting…as this was my first HR interview i was excited to face it….
Me: may I come in sir?
He: come in (he with small smile on his face) sit down
Me: good evening Sir…
He: Manu is this physics lab
WIPRO PAPER ON 16th AUGUST AT HYDERABAD

Hi, I am Mohammed Asrar Ahmed, MCA Final year student of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad . WIPRO recently visited our campus for RECRUITMENT on 16-aug-2007 , Thursday.

I am very much glad to inform you all that I have been recruited by WIPRO after being rejected by INFOSYS in the final round. After the rejection from INFOSYS I was really very much dejected. But my PARENTS, my brothers and last but not the least my FACULTIES have helped me a lot to come out of that shock, and to keep faith in myself. And the FRESHERS SITE has also helped me a lot to make it into WIPRO. I thank my EVER MERCYFUL ALLAH for giving me strength to overcome from that dejection and work hard for WIPRO. Finally I would like to advise you all that if you are not selected in one then do not suppose that ALLAH closed the door for you but believe that HE would open HUNDRED DOORS for your SUCCESS.
syntaxes, rules followed in writing a COBOL program, the LEVEL numbers, sections and sub sections in each of the four DIVISIONS.
While I was explaining he was very much suprised and impressed with my explanation.
He: when did you study this (COBOL)subject?
Me: in First year second semester.
I have SELECTED YOU. YOU ARE IN WIPRO. JUST GO AND FILL THIS FORM AND SIT FOR A SMALL HR INTERVIEW.

He: Then asked me some questions about my seminar on NETWORK SECURITY- AUTHENTICATION PROTOCOLS.
