A brief history of the College


In June 1983, on receiving temporary affiliation from the University of Mumbai, the College was started with 220 students comprising of two divisions of F.Y.B Com by Rajasthani Sammelan, a public charitable Trust. The College is named in memory of late Seth Ghanshyamdas Saraf, father of Shri Mahavirprasadji Saraf, who gave a handsome donation for the same. Founder Principal Late Shri B. K. Acharya, and Chairmen of Governing Council viz. Shri D R Dhanukaji (former Judge of Bombay High Court), Shri Banwarilalji Jhunjhunwala, Shri Vishwanathji Podar, Late Shri Mohanlalji Dalmia provided the right direction for college development. Today, it has 3094 (Degree) plus 2959 (Junior) on its rolls. Principal Dr Ruki Mirchandani, under the leadership of Shri Ashokji Saraf (Chairman of the Governing Council) is all set to take the college to greater heights with her ‘Learning with Fun’ mantra.


During the 20 years of Principal Dr Sunanda Kar (1986-2006), the College got permanent affiliation, started self-finance courses like BMS, BMM, BCAF, BCBI, M. Com, Certificate courses of University of Mumbai and UGC. In 2004, the College was accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade and has been sanctioned Rs. 2 crores of UGC Grant for a Women’s Hostel. The NSS unit brought laurels to college through its diverse activities,.. The NCC unit of college represented State of Maharashtra and University of Mumbai at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. The NCC cadets won the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh prize. The Adult and Continuing Education & Extension unit was adjudged as the Best Unit by the University in 2006. Inter-collegiate cultural festival MAUJ underscores the cultural and literary activities of the college.
